Belmont Middle School Student to Compete at the State Spelling Bee in Jackson

The Tishomingo County Spelling Bee was held at Tishomingo Middle School on January 31st. Students in grades 5-8 from Belmont, Burnsville, Iuka and Tishomingo vied for title of district spelling bee champion. Students competed for 28 rounds, spelling 178 words. Belmont Middle School was represented by Ashton Rojas, Libby Mitchell, Bruce McClung, Chloe Page, Madeline Ledbetter and alternate Daegan Mitchell. All of Belmont’s students finished in the Top 9. Although only the top 3 students were recognized at the end of the bee, Chloe Page tied for 5th place and Bruce McClung finished in 4th place. Jesus Ramirez from Burnsville finished 3rd, and Libby Mitchell finished in 2nd place. Ashton Rojas spelled the winning word “larynx” to claim the title of Tishomingo County’s District Spelling Bee Champion! Ashton will represent Tishomingo County in Jackson at the State Spelling Bee!
