Mississippi State University Northeast Mississippi Community College Tishomingo County High School

Mr. Eric Thornton

Coach Thornton is going into his second season as the head coach at Belmont High School. Thornton is a 2004 graduate of Tishomingo County High School. During his time at TC, he lettered in both football and baseball. He continued his education at Northeast Mississippi Community College and completed his undergraduate degree at Mississippi State University.  Coach Thornton began his teaching career at Columbus City Schools, where he also served as the head slow pitch and fast pitch coach from 2012-2020. During that time he led his teams to eight playoff appearances including three district championships and also had five players go on to sign to play softball at the collegiate level. Thornton was selected to coach the MAC All-Star Game (Slow Pitch) in 2019 and the North Mississippi Softball Coaches Association All-Star Game (Fast Pitch) to be played June 9, 2022. He is married to the former Molly McIntire.

Mr. Mark Maroon

Coach Maroon is a 1979 graduate of Belmont High School. During his time as a student at Belmont, he played baseball, football, basketball, and tennis. He continued his education at Northeast Mississippi Community College and completed his undergraduate studies at Mississippi State University. He earned his M.A. at Delta State University in 2020. He served as the head tennis coach at Tishomingo County High School from 2009-2010 and led them to win the 4A Mississippi Tennis State Championship. He served as the head junior high fast pitch coach at Belmont from 2013-2015. He was also the head cross country coach from 2013-2016 and has been the assistant varsity softball fastpitch coach since 2018.

Northwest Shoals Community College Colbert Heights High School

Mr. Chris Scott

Coach Chris Scott is entering his second season as an assistant coach at Belmont High School. He is a 1994 graduate of Colbert Heights High School where he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball. Chris went on to continue his education at Northwest Shoals Community College. He began his coaching career in 2010 by starting the North Alabama Thunder travel team. During his time as coach, the Thunder have won numerous tournaments and championships. In 2015, Chris took over the head softball coaching duties at Belgreen High School and remained there until 2018. Under his direction, Belgreen won the area championship each year and advanced to the state tournament in both 2017 and 2018. During his time at Belgreen, 6 players went on to sign college scholarships to continue playing softball. For his efforts, Chris was named Area Coach of the Year in 2018. Chris is the proud father of three children; Payton, Emmie, and Aubryn.
